Informatoin Retrieval 2.0
Two posts this week demonstrate the difference between IR 1.0 and IR 2.0. (IR=Information Retrieval). In the first case it is Peter Murray’s blog on the ‘Analysis of Google Scholar and Google Books‘ which points out -rightly so- that Google Scholar / Books are not comprehensive in their information retrieval (1.0). On the other hand is Richard Ackerman’s post on “Google Earth Book Search” which demonstrates the beginning of a new world of search mash-ups and browse/discovery tools; of which we are just beginning to see twinkles in the eyes of IR 2.0!
I think the real interesting question comes in which version of IR Google will place their financial resources?!
